“…but I already have a cup?”

Bring a mug, bag, or other reusable items into your favorite local spots to save money and the environment.

How it works

For customers

See the “Bring your own” sticker in a business window, at the counter, or on their website? That’s your cue to bring your own containers, bags, or other reusable items you might use on your visit. Staff is already expecting to see your glassware, mugs, and straws so you can skip the spiel and go straight to enjoying.

For businesses

Do you already allow customers to bring in their own bags, mugs, or takeout containers? Communicate it through the Omaha Reduces initiative! When you become a member of the free program, you’ll receive a window cling sticker to display at your business, instructions on how to adhere to food and safety guidelines, as well as be listed in the Omaha Reduces directory.

For volunteers

When people know a business accepts reusables, it makes customers that much more inclined to bring them in! That’s why we need your help to identify businesses that already do this, as well as approach businesses that could benefit from starting. We have the guidelines and the know-how; we just need the boots on the ground to spread the word.

Is Omaha Reduces something new? Yes and No.

Reducing and reusing is far from a revolutionary concept. Many metro businesses have been accepting reusable containers for years. What the new Omaha Reduces program does is standardize how this information is communicated to customers. With stickers and other marketing materials, customers can quickly identify what businesses accept their containers without asking questions, getting weird looks, or causing a ruckus.
